Bastantes padres de familia que no hablan ingl\u00e9s vieron en nosotros una puerta de comunicaci\u00f3n. Fue muy agradable poder orientar a los padres en el idioma que ellos hablan. Gran cantidad de padres tienen ni\u00f1os nuevos en la escuela que ingresan a 6\u00b0 grado, ellos ten\u00edan m\u00e1s dudas que los padres que tienen ni\u00f1os en 7\u00b0 y 8\u00b0 grado.<\/p>\n
La importancia de comunicarse en un mismo idioma es fundamental para sentirte bien, para sentirte escuchado y respetado.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Al principio los padres se acercaban un poco t\u00edmidos, pero cuando ya algunos supieron que a trav\u00e9s de nosotros encontraban un canal de comunicaci\u00f3n con la escuela, comenzaron a decirles a otros padres y m\u00e1s personas nos buscaban.<\/p>\n Yo personalmente recordaba cuando llegue por primera vez a la escuela de mis hijos en este pa\u00eds y nadie hablaba espa\u00f1ol, me sent\u00eda incomunicada, no lograba obtener respuestas a mis dudas, fue frustrante para m\u00ed. Por eso me he puesto en la tarea de ayudar a esos padres que ahora est\u00e1n en la misma situaci\u00f3n que fue la m\u00eda.<\/p>\n Los directivos de la escuela al principio estaban un poco renuentes en aceptar que hay padres que necesitan ayuda en espa\u00f1ol. Yo entiendo que estamos en Estados Unidos y que nosotros tenemos que hablar ingl\u00e9s, pero para muchos padres, como fue mi caso; no es f\u00e1cil aprender un idioma r\u00e1pidamente, toma tiempo; y mientras tanto \u00bfQu\u00e9 podemos hacer? Nosotros podemos ayudar a esos padres, abriendo canales de comunicaci\u00f3n con la escuela.<\/p>\n Si usted ha tenido alguna experiencia similar a la nuestra, le invitamos a que la comparta con nosotros.<\/p>\n ______________________________________________________________<\/p>\n Last Friday was the day for the parents to pick up schedules for the school year at my son’s school. It was a marathon for everyone!<\/p>\n This year we had the idea to help parents who do not speak English.\u00a0We designed a shirt with a message indicating that we were there to help them with information in Spanish. We prepared the schedule information, location of classrooms, requirements such as permission slips for sports and medical information, transportation, and clubs.<\/p>\n We wondered: will there be many parents? Will there be only a few parents? And I can guarantee they were many!<\/p>\n Many parents who did not speak English saw us as a door to communication. It was nice to guide parents by the language they speak. Lots of new parents have children in school entering 6th grade; they had more questions than parents who have children in 7th and 8th grade.<\/p>\n The importance of communicating in the same language is essential to feel good, to feel heard and respected.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n At first, the parents were a little shy, but when they learned that through us they have found a channel of communication with the school, they began to tell other parents, and more people were looking for us.<\/p>\n I personally remember when I first came to school with my children in this country and no one spoke Spanish. I was frustrated, and I couldn’t get answers to my questions. So I’ve put in the work to help those parents who are now in the same situation as I was.<\/p>\n The school officials were at first a little reluctant to accept that there are parents who need assistance in Spanish. I understand that this is the U.S. and we have to speak English, but for many parents, as was my case, its not easy to learn a language quickly, it takes time; and in the meantime what can we do?
