¿Puedes Ver Lo Que Yo Veo? Can You See What I See?

Practicar! Practicar!

Ejercitar, poner en práctica algo que se ha aprendido, eso es practicar. Si hacemos que los estudiantes practiquen con las letras del abecedario constantemente, ellos van a  reconocer las letras más fácil, van a identificar palabras que comiencen con estas letras mucho más rápido. Esa es la idea de juego: ¿Puedes Ver Lo Que Yo Veo? – Can You See What I See? Es un juego que permite identificar las letras del alfabeto como iniciales de las palabras.

¿Puedes Ver Lo Que Yo Veo? Can You See What I See?

A jugar y a ganar!

How to Practice Spanish during Lunch Time at School?

Repetition is the mother of skill – we said it before, and we are saying it again. Once your child starts learning Spanish, you need to attentively supervise him to make sure that his language skills will truly improve over time. Children are very likely to forget what they learn, and for that reason, cultivating their language skills regularly should be a priority. Practicing during lunch time at school can be another efficient opportunity to help your little one improve his current abilities of writing, reading and speaking Spanish.

OFSagosto2014

Creating a meaningful schedule of Spanish-centered activities constitutes an excellent way to help your child practice his language skills and work to improve them over time. Assuming that he or she has already learned several basic words in Spanish, such as colors, animals or jobs, you can make of use all activities at Onlinefreespanish.com to help him memorize them better while successfully keeping him entertained. Select your child’s Spanish level, and then browse throughout the many activities available to create a resourceful schedule of tasks he can enjoy while at lunch time at school.

You can schedule your child’s tasks by simply alternating different activities every day. To maximize children’s learning potential, parents should be more oriented towards those tasks that can make them become more interested in learning Spanish – which should not be complicated with the wide array of engaging activities at Onlinefreespanish.com. We suggest including “El Alfabeto” activity (Lesson 1, Level 1 – Beginner) in his everyday schedule – this will ensure you that your little one will be able to practice the Spanish alphabet regularly, thereby improving his language skills considerably.

coloresp2

Each lesson comes with its own activities – we suggest taking each lesson gradually, with two or three activities a day, until your child eventually managed to go through all tasks. You can have, for example, the following schedule for the first week: Monday – El Alfabeto (Lesson 1), Sopa de Letras and El juego de Beenny (both from Lesson 2);

Tuesday – El Alfabeto (Lesson 1), Seleccion y Empareje, El Juego de Pingu and Juego de Memoria (all three from Lesson 2);

Wednesday – El Alfabeto (Lesson 1), Hazme una Cara and a couple of Páginas para Colorear (both from Lesson 2);

Thursday – El Alfabeto (Lesson 1), Sopa de Letras, El juego de Pingu (both from Lesson 3); and Friday – El Alfabeto (Lesson 1), El juego de Beenny, Juego del Corpo and Juego de Memoria (all three from Lesson 3).

Once the first week ends, you can continue with the remaining activities from Lesson 3, and progress until you finish Lesson 16-19 (Los Números). Be sure to allow your little one to rest one or two days every two weeks, otherwise the schedule will eventually become less pleasurable for him. When you finish all lessons, create a new schedule that combines activities from different lessons.

By using the online activities at Onlinefreespanish.com, children will be able to learn Spanish easily in a shorter time, and parents can avoid potentially predisposing them to forgetting what they know already. Every activity can make children more interested in improving his language skills, specifically because learning is not going to be boring anymore. Once it becomes more entertaining, he or she will happily go through your schedule while enjoying his lunch meal.

Earth Day and Language Skills – Children Learn How to Protect the Environment in an Engaging Way

dia de la tierra1

Día de la Tierra (Earth Day) is one of the most complex and helpful Spanish lessons within “Holidays and Celebrations” chapter, bringing a number of engaging activities for both children and adults who want to learn more about this international event. Thankfully, these activities can help all children understand the importance of our environment, allowing them to walk away having greater knowledge regarding the most appropriate ways to protect the earth against pollution and other harmful factors.
The first activity, “Earth Day”, enables children to successfully remove all trashy items, including cans and bottles, which contribute to polluting the environment at a great deal. Once all items are banished, children will be able to see 12 images that depict several concepts and items related to the environment, including recycling, a soda can and a bin. By clicking on each image, they will be able to see the English name of the item in question, followed by the pronunciation of its Spanish name and, finally, the syllables that form it.
dia de la tierra2“Go Green” is the second and most helpful activity, which comes with plenty of ideas and tips on living a green life to protect Earth’s natural environment. By clicking on each image, children will be able to see these tips in both English and Spanish version, and the small audio icon next to them will allow them to hear the Spanish version being pronounced. Not only will they understand the importance of going green, but they will also be able to improve their Spanish language skills substantially.
The “Memory game” activity incorporates the classic memory game within it, but the only difference is that the cards will display environment-related images and graphics. Furthermore, “Dunk-a-Pingu” aims to test children’s understanding of protecting the environment, such as recycling, prior to the Earth Day. This activity is basically a hangman-style game, as children have to select the right letters in order to form the Spanish name of the image depicted on the whale. Not selecting the right letter will determine the ice block on which Pingu stays to break, until he will fall in the cold water.

There are, of course, many other excellent activities for those children who want to learn more about the Earth Day. “Beenny’s Game” requires kids to guide Beenny the bee through the labyrinth and solve all challenges in order to progress. The “Word Search Puzzle” activity involves searching specific words that are Earth-related within a square of letters, whilst the “Recycling Game” requires kids to sort items in the correct recycling bins. The more items they sort correctly, the bigger their score will be. Moreover, the “Coloring Pages” are printable, depicting several items that are highly related to Earth’s natural environment.

dia de la tierra

Each activity within “Día de la Tierra” lesson will increase awareness, allowing children to learn about the best practices involved within protecting the Earth from pollution and other factors that might damage it. All activities are very engaging, and they can even improve kids’ Spanish language abilities, permitting them to develop a cultural sense that can manifest later in their lives positively, determining them to act against pollution and support Earth Day.

Every time we needed an item from the list the school sent, I told my kids to get me an item and I would say the name of the item in Spanish.  For example,  “borrador”, now look for “colores”, we need  “tijeras”. That way, we completed all school’s supplies that they need for school and practiced our Spanish.

Memorization is a key part of learning new words. In lesson # 1 of the school supplies, you can see 9 cards with pictures related to school supplies. Click on “start” to hear the pronunciation of each object. When finished listening to all the vocabulary words, you will have a chance to play!

From September 15 to October 15 is celebrated Hispanic Heritage month. The reason for chose to start the Hispanic Heritage Month September 15, is because it is the date on which celebrates the independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico, Belize and Chile celebrate their independence on 16, 18 and 21 September respectively.

In the U.S. many Latinos and Hispanics have made significant contributions to the country achieving significant success in science, art, sports, politics and many other fields.

There are different ways to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. We can read some books to our children or students, in Spanish, or hold events where children can share their Hispanic heritage. In the past days, in the school of one of my children made an event where children had to create a billboard which compile their Hispanic heritage. The project was nice because my son put photos of their grandparents, jewelry, money, flag, products such as coffee and dressed for exhibition a shirt with the colors of our country, Colombia.

We really feel that our son is proud of his Hispanic heritage.

As a Hispanic, I invite you to participate in this celebration, teaching our children the traditions, culture and most importantly the Spanish language.
