Do Memory Games Help Children Learn Spanish?

Teaching children a foreign language can be difficult, and even if you start at a young age, they might be very likely to forget what he has once learned due to their tendency to focus on their day-to-day activities instead. As such, a better option you have when trying to help your little one improve his language skills is letting him play the Memory Game at OnlineFreeSpanish.com, which will enable him to memorize a wide array of words belonging to several categories.

new memory game

There are many reasons why using the Memory Game provided by OnlineFreeSpanish.com can actually help children learn Spanish better and faster as well. To completely understand them, we should go more in-depth with the features included in this activity. To play the Memory Game, children will have to find matching pairs of pictures, names and sounds. The difficult level can be adjusted from 3 to 12, representing the number of pairs that need to be matched in the game.

The Memory Game has been specifically implemented to help children with both beginner and advanced skills enjoy this activity to memorize words, and for this reason, your little one will be able to check the “Hint” box prior to starting the game, which will allow him to see the placement of each card when the game starts. Every time he clicks on a card, he will hear the pronunciation of the specific image depicted there. Much to their delight, children can track their progress by clicking “How am I doing” in the menu interface.

newmemorygame2

The primary reason why the Memory Game is such an efficient way to convince your child to use his entire attention on learning Spanish is that he or she will be extremely eager to find the matching pairs. Since he will be able to see and also hear the Spanish name of the picture showcased on every card, he will automatically be able to unconsciously memorize them. You will undoubtedly be able to notice an improvement in his vocabulary over time, especially because the Memory Game includes several categories your child can choose from when playing it, including Body, Solar System, Farm Animals, Professions and Sea Life as well.
The Memory Game constitutes an extraordinary opportunity to make your efforts worth the time when it comes to helping your child learn Spanish, especially since this activity can be very entertaining, making him completely focus on its goal: finding matching pairs. As a result, he will be more likely to memorize not only the pronunciation of every element, but also how its name is spelled, therefore enriching his vocabulary and being able to take his language skills to the next level.
Before deciding on how to best use the Memory Game to help your child learn Spanish, we suggest letting him enjoy this activity shortly after he goes through one of the lessons of Level 1, which teach him all the words presented in the game. This is going to be an excellent way for him to remember about them, thus learning how to better handle Spanish and use it for the lessons that are about to come.

Why Repetition Is the Mother of Skill?

bingo bilingue
Why is it that when you are teaching children, especially toddlers that repetition is the mother of skill? The answer is quite simple. If the child hears something often enough, it will be committed to memory.

When it comes to learning a language the principle is the same. It could be as simple as saying the same words every day to reading the same story at bedtime. Whatever the method is, the child will learn through this auditory method. That is why many children that grow up in a family that speak more than one language, tend to learn so quickly.

Every day, a child learns something new. For them this can be a rather scary thing, they find comfort in the repetition as they know what exactly is coming next so a simple conversation every morning is something that they will look forward to. It could be something as simple as:
¡Hola!  ¿Cómo estás? – Hello! How are you?

lacara

Repetition is the mother of skill; remember that the aim is to get the child to learn the basics of the language. Setting that solid foundation will do a lot for the child. It will not only help to build their confidence but they will be learning a lot as well. They will feel as if they have mastered what you have been practicing with them each day and will say it when they see you. This of course is the perfect opportunity to take the lesson a little further and put in some more basic words.

Bear in mind to use the words that are relevant to the situation so that they learn when it is appropriate to say it as well. It cannot be said enough, repetition is the mother of skill. So the conversation can move from ¡Hola! ¿Cómo estás? – Hello! How are you? To ¿Tienes hambre? – Are you hungry?
¿Qué quieres comer? – What do you want to eat? And so on…
Many parents may not realize what they are doing when they do this but they are actually building the comprehension skills of the child and feeding that desire to learn. Research has been done which has shown that repetition is the best way for a child to learn. Repetition also allows the child to get the pronunciation of the word correctly.
Putting the basic Spanish words in a song is a fantastic idea as that really gets the child’s attention. It could be numbers from one to ten (uno a diez) or colors or animals. What works really well in that situation is that if in addition to the auditory lesson, a visual of what is being said is added as well. After a while the child will have mastered that and can move on to more advanced words and phrases. Remember that repetition is the mother of skill.

si esta alegre ahora

The process does not take a lot of time. It could be as short as ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes before bedtime. The key is to keep things exciting and you will soon see why repetition is the mother of skill. It applies to everything we learn and for a child to learn basic Spanish words it is no different.

Spanish Syllables Practice Game!

silabas juegoThe Syllables Practice Game is an online activity that allows children to use what they have learned from the Syllables lessons in order to improve their understanding of syllables and forming words using them.

The practice game is available only for syllables ba – be – bi – bo – bu and ma – me – mi – mo – mu, and once children access one of these groups of syllables, they will be able to click on the icon with the spider located right below the arrow buttons.

This will allow them to access the game. The interface is extremely easy to navigate and comprehend, with proper instructions and imagery to allow children to understand the purpose of the game. There are three difficulty levels (easy, medium and hard), and two time options – “endless,” which permits children to practice syllable lessons endlessly, and “minute to win,” which gives them one minute to complete the game and win it. Children can adjust these settings per their wishes or skills, and clicking on the “Play” button will then run the activity.

silaba game araña2Once the game starts, a bowl with crackers will appear, and a spider will come down in order to take one. Each cracker includes a word using one syllable belonging to the selected group, which is missing. Clicking on the cracker will allow children to listen to the pronunciation of the word, and the select one of the syllable in order to complete it.

On the right side of the game interface there are five circles, which equal the exact number of syllables available in one group. Once the spider comes down to “steal” a cracker, children have to listen to the pronunciation of the word, then take the correct syllable on the right and drag it to the cracker in question. If their answer is right, the spider will drop the cracker back in the bowl; if, on the contrary, the answer is wrong, the spider will take the cookie and another spider will come down.
The bar located on the top of the screen indicates, from left to right, the difficulty level, the score and the number of wrong attempts from a total of five. Once children reach that number, the game is over, and they can restart it by simply clicking on the “X” button located in the right upper corner of the game interface.

silabas todas

The Syllables Practice Game constitutes an excellent manner to help children improve their language skills and learn syllables in a more engaging way. After going through the Syllables lessons, they can easily use their knowledge in order to stop the spiders from eating the crackers – an activity they will definitely be

determined to win and master. Once they manage to pass the “Easy” difficulty level, they will be able to advance to “Medium” or even “Hard,” which will make the game more complicated since the speed of the spiders become significantly greater.

Syllables are essential for learning Spanish language, so practicing them through this game will transform the lesson in an engaging activity that will captivate children’s attention and will permit them to develop their current language skills to proceed to the next level.

Come and practice the parts of the face in Spanish with our interactive presentation.
http://www.onlinefreespanish.com/aplica/lessons/face/face2.htm

additionally you can practice the Lesson of the face with all the activities we have created for you.
http://www.onlinefreespanish.com/aplica/lessons/face/facemenu.htm

The face game, it’s really fun! Why?

In the face’s game we will learn the different parts of the face; additionally we will work our memory!
In the first part of the game, appears the face and each of the parts randomly (face – hair – eyebrows – eyes – cheeks – mouth – chin – nose – ears), these faces continue appearing, until we press the HERE button, all parts of the face stop and form a specific drawing of a face with all the parts, the game consist in memorize the face and then, with all these parts rebuild the face that we already memorized.

We find a blue area, in this area we can build the face using all the parts that are in the list in the right list.

Each part has 4 different options; like in the hair we have 4 different hair styles, one yellow, one brown, one orange and one black, in each of the other parts are going to find 4 different ways. These options allow us to reconstruct the face that we previously memorized. Additionally every time that we click in the face parts buttons, we can hear the sound of the part that we are using, that allows us to reinforce and memorize how pronounce the part in Spanish.

When we are sure that we built the face that we previous memorized, we need to press DONE, and we’re going to find how many parts are equal and how many parts are different from the original.
Finally we can compare the initial face vs. the face that we are done.
Enjoy the new game and learn!

A aprender jugando!
