Mi lista de navidad – Impresión gratis – My Christmas wish list – Free printable

Hola amigos,

lista-de-navidad

Esta lista de navidad es sencilla, pero fomenta la idea en los niños de clasificar los regalos en 4 categorías: Yo quisiera tener, Yo necesito, Me gustaría leer y yo quisiera usar.

En las líneas de abajo ellos pueden escribir lo que desean y esa lista es de gran ayuda para la familia por que así sabemos que podemos regalarles. ¡En casa y en la escuela ya los niños han comenzado a escribir sus cartas!

Foreign language clubs during lunch time!

We can not pass this great idea! and great work from two teachers in Pittsburgh Concord K-5.

preschool

“This spring, it started two foreign language clubs that meet weekly at lunch and are taught by two paraprofessionals at the school — Celia O’Brien, who is a native Spanish speaker, and Jason Bhandari, a Bhutanese refugee who is native Nepali speaker.

Ms. O’Brien and Mr. Bhandari are assigned to Concord because it is a center for English as a second language, or ESL.

Of the 451 students enrolled at Concord, more than 100 are not native English speakers. Most of them speak Nepali, but other languages spoken include Spanish, Burmese, Karen, Vietnamese, French and Swahili.

“There’s a real need for the community to be aware of cultural diversity here at Concord,” principal Jessica Colbert said.” (from: www.post-gazette.com full article here: http://ow.ly/xFcol)

Can we do the same clubs in our schools? Can be possible that our principals agree with this idea?

We think we can do it!

Share your experiences with us, we are sure everybody can learn from others!

Tareas y habilidades de estudio – Homework and Study skills

by Jeanne Kraus – Reading / Curriculum Specialist – Margate Elementary School.

studio2

_________________________________________________________

studio11. Write down assignments in a notebook. Write when it’s due. Use a calendar to plan projects.

2. Use self-stick notes to attach to books he needs for homework. This will remind him what to take home.

3. File papers. Include an area in each folder for finished and unfinished assignments.

4. Make “to do” lists. Model it as a parent and make one for each study time. The child crosses off each item as it is completed.

5. Pack backpack at night and put it by the door.

6. Break long projects into small parts. Write them on the calendar.

7. Set up a study spot. Quiet. Well-lit. Hang up a “Do Not disturb” sign. No visitors, phone calls.

8. Choose a place comfortable or your child. Some work best in their room; others are too distracted.

9. Area to work in must be neat. School supplies should be well-stocked in a box.  Pencils, rulers, paper, sharpener, dictionary etc.

10. Encourage your child to study in the same place every day.

11. Study when child is most alert. It is best to study at the same time every day. Set your schedule every day.

12. Study the hardest subjects first.

13. Set a required working time so your child does not rush through assignments. Then they can read during rest of time. (Grades 1-3, 10-30 minutes per day; Grades 4-6, 30-60 minutes per day)

14. It is okay to play quiet classical music. Some kids find it helps them to concentrate. The TV should be off.

It is important to be organized in other parts of life too. This will help with schoolwork. For example, make sure your child has specific places to keep his things. Limit TV watching by helping your child make a plan of which shows to watch.

Be sure to incorporate familiar routines into your day. Sitting down to dinner together is important; a regular bedtime is very important as is a good breakfast. Children should have regular responsibilities around the house to perform. Make sure all of his responsibilities are taken care of before bedtime. Last, encourage extracurricular activities, but remember; school comes first!!

How can you help?

Be a model, o example, use a calendar and refer to it often. Reward orderliness.

Help your child learn to organize by letting him help organize a trip to the store, or a birthday party. Use a timer if your child has trouble sticking to a schedule.

Practice Spanish using Picture Dictionary A-Z

Picture Dictionary is one of the five activities included in the El Alfabeto (The Alphabet) game, and it consists of three primary categories: A – I, J – Q and R – Z.

el alfabeto menu

By clicking on one of these three categories, children will be automatically redirected to a screen where they will be able to see different pages, each of them presenting them a letter contained within one of the aforementioned categories, along with four different Spanish words using it, which come along with a supporting picture, their Spanish name and their English translation.

coloringpage5
The pages following the page with the letter will present children each word separately, along with a supporting picture (which is bigger this time), the name of the word, the syllables it is composed of and its letters as well.
Each category has a slider located at the bottom of the game interface, which can be used in order to advance to the next pages.

The “Print This Page” button allows children to print out the respective pages in order to start coloring them. Children can then go back to the main interface of the El Alfabeto game, where they will be able to select another from the three categories of the Picture Dictionary available there by clicking on one of the icons located at the bottom of the game interface.
Since this Picture Dictionary comes with so many interesting features and advantages, children can easily learn Spanish language without problems. They can start learning the letters of the alphabet gradually, and then familiarize with their presence in various words that use them. Thankfully, reading each syllable might help them improve their pronunciation significantly, and given the fact that they are able to see and read each letter of the provided words, they will take their Spanish language skills to the next level.

coloringpage4The words included within the pages of the Picture Dictionary vary in terms of difficulty, which will permit children to have a better understanding of Spanish language. Since each letter is pronounced in different ways depending upon the word it is included within, children will be able to learn how to form their own words at the end of the lesson.
What is more, printing and then coloring the pages will engage them in a pleasurable and enjoyable activity that will make learning the Spanish alphabet extremely nice. Children can learn everything easier when they are fascinated by a thing or another, so they will not need to go through boring lessons again and again only to learn the letters. After going through the other four activities included within the El Alfabeto game, they will already know how to pronounce the letters, so the Picture Dictionary will be a great way to practice their language skills while coloring each picture corresponding to the words presented on the pages.
Children will be able to print the pages several times, so that they can color them in various ways and learn Spanish language easily, without the necessity to pay for supplementary lessons.

Why Should Your Child Learn Spanish?

Spanish is a beautiful, but difficult language to learn. It is one of the most widely spoken tongues in the United States. It is also spoken across the world from Europe to South America. Thus, even the ability to speak conversational Spanish is an asset for somebody growing up in today’s world. It is never too early to start. Plus, if a child understands the basics of the Spanish language, then they will be able to transfer that knowledge towards other Romance languages in the future.

Learning to speak a foreign language is indispensable to one’s future. A simple game like this picture dictionary can really make a difference in child’s understanding. In fact, you might even find yourself learning a new language in the process. This is a fabulous way to learn elementary words and refresh your memory. The key is to spend at least twenty minutes a day reviewing the words and alphabet. Make it a goal to learn a third of the alphabet with your child each week. You will quickly realize how much easier it is when you have visuals and narrator to help you along the way.

An animated picture dictionary will capture your child’s attention in ways you never imagined. However, you should have them work on written exercises to really drive the lesson home. Let the picture dictionary be the fun part of their work. They can write sentences or draw additional pictures of each word. Try to make up little word games as you go through the alphabet. This way your child is engaged through the whole process. They will be speaking Spanish fluently in no time!

Rompecabezas de Sílabas – Slide and Find, Syllable Puzzle

We are so excited to announce our new game to help kids learn to read in Spanish, and also acquire excellent pronunciation. The Slide and Find Syllable Puzzle lets kids form words by combining syllables. This is the natural way to learn to read in Spanish.

silabas game slide
In English, children learn to read by sounding out letters. In Spanish, the consonants are combined with vowels and children learn to read syllables. They first read ma, me, mi, mo, mu and then read the syllables combined into words: mamá, mima. Next, the words are combined to form sentences: Mi mamá me mima.

In the Slide and Find Syllable Puzzle, you are combining syllables to form common words. The game consists of making a complete picture by matching the parts and at the same time combining syllables to make the word represented by the picture. When you combine the pictures to a ‘cow’, you will also combine the syllables ‘va’ and ‘ca’ to make ‘vaca’.

There is native-speaker audio for each syllable, so players can “sound out” the word the same way native speakers do as they learn to read. If the parts of the picture do not match, the sounds will not make sense. When the parts of the picture make an object, the sounds form the word. The picture serves as a visual reminder of the meaning of the word and also a way for players to self-check by forming a complete image.

rompecabezas silabas

This new game is an entertaining way for kids to learn vocabulary and also learn the sound system in Spanish. The Slide and Find Syllable puzzle teaches them reading, pronunciation and new words as they play.
